I was tasked with reimagining what the currency of a country of my choice might look like if history had been altered. As a solution to this brief, I imagined what the currency of Northern Ireland would look like if they had separated from the UK during “The Troubles,” a three-decade Irish revolutionary period between Nationalists and Unionists during the early late 1960’s to late 1990’s.
My inspiration came from the Blackhead Lighthouse on the edge of Belfast, the Kingfisher, the honey bee, as well as the Scrabo Tower in Northern Ireland. Each of these interact with the scenery and culture of Northern Ireland, including the River Lagan, the flax flower, and the wool industry.
