For this project, I was tasked with illustrating a 6 foot koinobori that will hang in Tokyo, Japan during the 2020 Tokyo Midtown Children’s Day Festival. I chose to create two illustrations that were based on where I spent my childhood and reminded me of the place I will always call home. Growing up on the Central Coast, I was surrounded by beautiful rolling hills, vineyards, strawberry fields and cliffs that overlooked the Pacific Ocean. My Koinobori is a tribute to the Central Coast. From the peaks of the mountains to the waves of the sea, the landscape of the Central Coast is a narrative of my journey through life.
