Coexist is a fictional exhibition that I created print materials, the front end of a mobile app and the front end of a website for South African illustrator, pattern designer and children’s book author, Gill Bond. I was tasked with choosing an artist that interested me and creating a fictional exhibition of the artists’ work to be displayed at the Honolulu Museum of Art. For this fictional exhibition, I created an RSVP, two envelopes, a save the date, an invitation, three badges to be used at the event, a mobile app, and a website. The creation of this project was completed using Adobe Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Adobe XD and involved capturing interesting moments from her work and collaging the in a way to create multitude of graphic layouts that would ultimately draw an audience to the Honolulu Museum of Art for her event.
For this project, I chose the artist, Gill Bond, a South African children’s illustrator and painter for her vibrant, fun and contemporary paintings, illustrations, and patterns. Her work often depicts people in society interacting with animals and birds, which led to the exhibition being named “Coexist.” My approach was to highlight specific parts of her work and collage them together to create a world for every viewer to imagine themselves in and coexist with the people, animals and birds within her work.
